Remedy Entertainment has officially revealed the long-rumoured crossover that we were all hoping to see. The latest DLC for the studio's excellent 2019 action-adventure game Control will see Jesse Faden collide with Alan Wake, the star of Remedy's excellent 2010 game of the same name.

Revealed during last night's PlayStation State of Play stream, Control: AWE (or Alan Wake Expansion) will hit PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC via the Epic Game Store on August 27th. This is the second major expansion for Control, following The Foundation DLC which launched on PS4 and PC in March, and on Xbox One in June.

AWE will put us back in the shoes of Jesse Faden as she continues to explore the Oldest House, the HQ of the Federal Bureau of Control. We'll get to explore an entirely new area of the twisted, surreal building as we dive into the Investigations Sector. Here, the Bureau is looking into substantial paranormal occurrences called Altered World Events (AWE), and it seems Jesse will have to deal with some particular nasty creatures.

Check out the trailer below for a glimpse of the monster Jesse will be facing down, as well as our first look at Alan Wake's long-awaited return.

"As Director of the Federal Bureau of Control, Jesse Faden must enter the Investigations Sector and confront the creature lurking within this long-abandoned part of the Bureau," reads the trailer's official description. "This threat has haunted the sector for years, waiting on the other side of the sealed Firebreak. In order to reclaim the Investigations Sector from its clutches, Jesse will need to explore the numerous Altered World Events investigated here, including one from the town of Bright Falls."

Fans of Alan Wake will of course be aware that Bright Falls is the town from which he disappeared some years ago. It very much sounds like Jesse will play a big role in uncovering what exactly happened to the mystery writer, potentially paving the way for a brand-new Alan Wake game... or at least a sequel to Control in which Alan plays a starring role alongside Jesse.

That's just wishful thinking at this point, but I'm sure the release of Control: AWE later this month will give us a clearer idea of what Remedy has planned for the wonderfully weird universe it's started to build.
