'Among Us' Chicken Nugget Shows Up Online For $10,000

Which came first, the impostor or the egg?

Yes, it's real. Someone is selling a chicken nugget that looks a little like an Among Us crewmate... for $10,000.

The advert appeared on Facebook Marketplace, and the seller is somewhere in Greene County, North Carolina, United States. Whether it is a collection only situation or whether the seller is willing to ship worldwide is unclear, but the chicken nugget came from an order from McDonalds. The fools, giving away this treasure instead of hoarding it for themselves. According to the listing, a pot of barbeque sauce and a pot of sweet and sour sauce is included in the price, which is a cracking bargain. Ketchup would have been more thematically appropriate, but there's no accounting for taste.

If this is utter gobbledegook to you, then let me ensure that we're all up to speed. Among Us is a game, playable on PC and mobiles, which is about deceiving your fellow players and murdering them one by one. Set on a space station, the blobby and colourful crewmates must complete tasks, like watering plants, clearing away rubbish, and connecting wires. It ain't much, but it's honest work. However, one or more of the crewmates is an impostor.

This player's mission is to kill the crewmates without getting caught. They're able to travel around the map through the vent system, and sabotage lights, doors, and even the nuclear reactor core to cause chaos. When a body is discovered, the crewmates chat to discuss who the murderer might be, and vote for the suspect to be ejected into space. If the crewmates correctly identify the impostor and boot them out, then they win. If the impostor manages to slaughter the entire crew or cause total sabotage of the space station, then they win.

The excellently evil premise of the game and the fact that it's free on mobiles has contributed to Among Us' stratospheric success. You'll likely have seen its impact on popular culture in some shape or form, and fans have even made an Among Us reality TV show tribute. Therefore, it's understandable that some would whack a chicken nugget that vaguely resembles the cartoony crewmates on sale.

As curious as this discovery is, there is a slight hitch: the listing is from five weeks ago, but the chicken nugget has stayed on sale. Imaginably, staleness will knock the price down to some degree. So, it's possible that the seller has frozen the nugget to preserve it. It's also possible that the seller has eaten the nugget because $10,000 for a piece of chicken in breadcrumbs that sort of looks like a video game character is frankly ridiculous. Still, it will be memorialised in the infiniteness of the internet.
