One Of The Best Assassin's Creed Games Is Free To Play This Weekend

By heck, I didn't see this coming.

Fancy a trip to Ancient Egypt? Of course you do. Unfortunately time travel is currently impossible and flying is a fairly sketchy proposition at this point in time for obvious reasons. The good news is Assassin's Creed Origins is free to play this weekend, which means we can at least escape to a stunning virtual recreation of Ancient Egypt to learn, explore, and stab bad guys with massive swords. Typical holiday stuff.

If you fancy indulging in this particular weekend break, all you need to do is head here and follow the instructions. Note that this offer is only available for PC, and that you'll only have free access to the game between June 19th and the 21st. You can, however, start downloading the game right now so that you don't waste time that could be spent playing over the weekend.

Once your free trial access expires, any progress you made will carry over if you choose to buy the game. Not too shabby.

Released in 2017, Assassin's Creed Origins marked a major shift for the Ubisoft franchise. After a few tired entries, Origins pushed Assassin's Creed in a fairly radical new direction, ditching a lot of the stealth-action mechanics in favour of an adventure that was more open-world RPG than anything else.

While many fans were resistant to the change at first, Origins represents one of the best games in the series. The game's Ancient Egypt is one of the most stunning open worlds I've ever explored in a video game, with its vast deserts, pyramids, tombs, and cities. You might even learn a thing or two as you travel the land and meet new characters. I know I did.

Origins also boasts one of the most interesting narratives, as well as one of the best protagonists the series has seen. Bayek's is a genuinely likable hero with a tragic quest and personal stake in the plot that will have you actively routing for him as he seeks out vengeance. It's also one of the earliest games in the timeline, so if you ever wanted to learn about the origins of the Assassin's, this is the game to play.

But I think I've sold it enough. If you've never played it before, this weekend is the perfect time to check out. Even if you've never considered yourself a fan of Assassin's Creed, believe me when I say you'll be interested to see what this one has to offer. Happy gaming!
