After years of avoiding the question, Rocksteady, developer of the Arkham games has finally revealed what it's been working on: a Suicide Squad game.

Now before you all go running, yes, the Suicide Squad film was largely panned, but the comics it's based on are well-loved and if Rocksteady has proven one thing it's that it can be trusted when it comes to comic book adaptations. The Arkham games are not just some of the best superhero games, they're still some of the best open-world games around.

The announcement is a very slight reveal, as it's only an image and a promise of more information to come. The image shows Superman from behind with a crosshair-like logo on his head. While we shouldn't draw too many conclusions from this, it seems to suggest that Deadshot will feature and the Squad may be trying to take down the Man of Steel himself.

The Suicide Squad is ostensibly meant to be a set of villains forced into doing good. However, as they are a squad formed by the US government, their missions in the comics are often given to them by the president and their politics determine what is good. For instance, in one storyline, president Lex Luthor sends the squad after Lois Lane who is investigating the leader and his criminal ties. It may well be that's the story the game will cover - it would certainly pit the Squad against Superman.

Rocksteady says it will reveal more about the Suicide Squad game at the DC Fan Dome event on August 22. Hopefully that includes a roster of heroes and villains that will be appearing in the game.

It's too soon to know, but it certainly looks like this Suicide Squad game will be the DC equivalent of Square Enix's Marvel's Avengers. Depending on release dates, it will be fascinating the two games go toe-to-toe, considering one represents Marvel's roster and the other DC's.

Though to know who will be the winner in that fight we'll need to know who will be appearing. I mean, in one game we've Captain America, Black Widow, and Spider-Man, hopefully Rocksteady isn't only bringing Doctor Vertigo to the table.
