Honestly, we're not afraid to admit that we've missed Dieter. Perhaps the most likeable cast member of Army of the Dead might not have been the best at fighting zombies, but he was courageous and frankly, a good friend. Though we're already looking forward to seeing how the Army-verse develops with Zack Snyder's next film in the series, we're going to have to hold our horses because the prequel to Army of the Dead, Army of Thieves has just got its first trailer.
Army of Thieves follows the event leading up to Snyder's zombie-heist movie released earlier this year. Though in this new trailer we can definitely see zombies are around, this film focuses on the events which made Dieter into a master safecracker. And rather than Snyder, it's directed by the actor who plays Dieter, Matthias Schweighöfer, himself.

Although we have already had a couple of stills from the film, this teaser is the first look at the plot we're going to encounter in Army of Thieves. It seems that a zombie apocalypse breaking out in Las Vegas means the world is entirely preoccupied with dealing with that crisis. Fortunately, that means security is going to be a little lax as the world worries about problems other than money, leaving an opportunity Dieter and his team can't ignore.

Though Zack Snyder is only producing this instalment, rather than directing, we know he is already hard at work on creating a sequel to Army of the Dead. A deal between Netflix and Snyder has been struck so he can continue creating a lot of high-quality action for the platform in the coming years, and the Army-verse is only going to get bigger. We're now waiting for Army of Thieves, the Army of the Dead direct sequel, and of course, we can't forget the spin-off anime.
There is no solid release date for Army of Thieves quite yet but we expect a release this year.
