Assassin's Creed Valhalla isn't even out for another few weeks, but rumours are already beginning to circulate in regards to where the popular Ubisoft franchise might be going next.

While the series has shown us plenty of stunningly realised periods in history, including Victorian London and Ancient Egypt, fans have been dying for Ubisoft to take Assassin's Creed East for years now. I'd certainly agree it's about time - especially since Sucker Punch's Ghost Of Tsushima showed us what a classic Assassin's Creed game might look like in feudal Japan, ie; really great.

Unfortunately we're no closer to knowing for sure, but some recently resurfaced art from Ubisoft Montreal concept artist John Bigorgne may have provided some clues. If nothing else, it's certainly gotten the official Assassin's Creed Reddit excited about the possibilities of an Assassin's Creed game set in China.

The artwork was first posted to Bigorgne's ArtStation account back in 2017, and its resurgence has sparked fresh speculation. One of the pieces is called 'Fortress', and shows traditional Asian architecture - most likely Chinese - surrounded by guards and a couple of small straw houses. What links this piece to Assassin's Creed? Just the fact the two figures on horses in the foreground are wearing robes that bear the insignia of the Assassins.

The second piece of art is called 'Forest', and shows a large, gnarled tree. A hooded figure with dual blades strapped to their back is also present. Take a look at Fortress below. Is it getting you in the mood for a Chinese-set Assassin's Creed? I certainly hope so.

It's not entirely clear whether or not these pieces from Bigorgne are official, or if he was just playing around with some ideas. As exciting as it would be to finally get a mainline Assassin's Creed game set in China (Chronicles went East but it wasn't a "core" entry), there's every chance that Bigorgne put these pieces together for fun.

With that said Ubisoft concept artist Michele Nucera shared some Assassin's Creed artwork via his own ArtStation back in 2018. That piece was called 'Vikings Village', and would later be linked to the upcoming Assassin's Creed Valhalla. So even if these concepts aren't officially for anything right now? There's a chance they could be one day.
