It's been an exciting couple of days for Assassin's Creed fans everywhere. First of all, we received the official announcement of Assassin's Creed Valhalla from Ubisoft late yesterday, and today we got our first proper look at the game as its debut trailer was revealed this afternoon.
It's now confirmed that the game will follow the lives of Vikings - but what else do we know about the newly announced Assassin's Creed title?
Well, first of all, you'll be playing as Eivor, a Viking raider. As the head of a clan, you'll be heading to ninth-century England, where you'll need to focus on building your Viking settlement. But the fractured state of Britain in those times means it won't be easy going - and, let's face it, where's the fun in that anyway? So you'll need to use everything at your disposal to build alliances, as well as brute force to make your way into power.
You'll also be able to customise your character to your liking, so you can look the part as you battle your way through the game. You'll be able to choose to play as either a male or female Viking and customise your gear and overall appearance.
But don't worry, there will be plenty of time to prove your strength. You'll be able to venture into enemy territory on raids which can allow you replenish vital resources or take out rival strongholds. The advanced RPG mechanics will mean you'll need all the resources you can get your hands on so that you can upgrade your settlement with buildings such as barracks, blacksmiths, and those all-important tattoo parlours. You'll be recruiting people into your clan too, so you'll want to make sure you have the provisions to keep them fed and happy.
As far as combat goes, you'll have a choice of weapons, including axes, swords, or shields which you'll be able to dual-wield, and a new combat system will allow you to "bash, dismember, and decapitate your foes". And if that doesn't sound fun enough for you, Valhalla will see the return of the series' trademark Hidden Blade which will allow you to "assassinate targets with deadly precision".

And while most of the game is set in England, you'll start off in Norway. Valhalla's lead producer Julien Laferrière explains more to Eurogamer. "You have to understand where these people are coming from. You'll feel the harshness of the lands, the political pressure there at the time. You'll feel all that and hopefully you'll understand why you have to move to England where most of the game takes place."
Here's the description from the game's official site:
"Become Eivor, a Viking raider raised to be a fearless warrior, and lead your clan from icy desolation in Norway to a new home amid the lush farmlands of ninth-century England. Find your settlement and conquer this hostile land by any means to earn a place in Valhalla.
"England in the age of the Vikings is a fractured nation of petty lords and warring kingdoms. Beneath the chaos lies a rich and untamed land waiting for a new conqueror. Will it be you?"
Well, I don't know about you, but I'm sold. I can't wait to hear more about Assassin's Creed Valhalla in the coming months and, honestly, this game can't come soon enough.
