Assassin's Creed Valhalla includes all sorts of aspects of Viking life, from vicious raids, to sumptuous feasts at longhouses, to riding a giant wolf across the rolling hills of England.

Do you not remember that part of your history lessons? Well, it's not a bother, seeing as Ubisoft isn't interested in a realistic recreation of the gritty minutiae of a regular Wednesday in 873 CE. In the brutal yet beautiful RPG, players even visit Asgard and Jotunheim, two mythological locations that were especially important to the religious beliefs of the Vikings. Furthermore, the hero, Eivor, is able to rely on the powers of Odin to aid them in exploration and battle, as they witness visions that connect the two characters together in mysterious ways.

When I got the chance to play six hours of Assassin's Creed Valhalla, I spent a significant portion of it trying to work out which of the wildlife you could cuddle. Village dogs and cats: yes. Horse: to an extent? You don't get to pat them or brush them, à la Red Dead Redemption 2, but I was quite invested in Llamrei's well-being (named for the horse of King Arthur). Through the settlement's stables, the player is able to customise their mount and train them in various skills, like speed, hardiness, and even swimming. So, to learn that there's a giant wolf rocking about Dark Ages England that you can tame and ride... it was like Christmas came early.

Here's how to get the Hati Wolf Mount in Assassin's Creed Valhalla. The first option is to purchase the Ultimate or Collector's editions of the game, as these two editions bundle in the Berserker Pack. Containing the Bearded Axe, Berserker set of armour, an Ursine Guard light shield, a pretty skin for your raven, and the Hati Wolf Mount, players will need to unlock the stable in their settlement, and complete the Berserker questline. Then, the wolf will appear in the stables, to the surprise of the stable hands and the horses, I'm sure.

The second option is to purchase the Hati Wolf Mount individually. It's available through the in-game store: select the menu, then select 'Store.' Scroll to the 'Companions' section and click the Hati Wolf Mount. This will set you back 800 Helix Credits, which is an in-game currency that is purchasable with real money. Helix Credits come in bundles of 500, 1050, and 2300, for $4.99, $9.99, and $19.99, so your cheapest option is to get 1050 Helix Credits. Then, to ensure your funds go the extra mile, mark out other items in the store that you fancy and calculate how much those will cost on top of the 800 Credits required for the wolf.

At the moment, there is no known way of unlocking the Hati Wolf Mount through gameplay progression, which is a bit of a shame. However, once it is purchased, the wolf is an option in the stables for the entire game, and will even transfer over to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X upgrade of Assassin's Creed Valhalla. One last thing: don't try to grab and ride any other wolves you see stalking the forests of England. They won't like it.
