Assassin's Creed Valhalla is going to arrive on our shores around the same time as Sony and Microsoft's next-gen consoles are expected, too, as announced in the Ubisoft Forward event of July 12th.

The new entry in Ubisoft's long-running, hugely successful series (let's not mention the movie, though, okay... not ever) is set to release on November 17th, for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC (Uplay and Epic Games Store), and you just know that next-gen versions are on the cards, too. Or whatever the Viking expression for "on the cards" is. Probably something I cannot pronounce.

The game's release date was revealed at the end of a new, lengthy gameplay trailer for Valhalla, which digs into combat and stealth, settlements and raiding, and much more. You can watch it above - and you can also check out our own impressions of the game, as we've played a little of it, on YouTube, right here. (Or just watch the video below, if you'd be so kind.)

Some of you might've noticed that the Valhalla release date puts this historical adventure in direct competition with something a little more futuristic, as CD Projekt Red's own big open-worlder of 2020, Cyberpunk 2077, comes out on November 19th. Not that it was always set for a November release, as it's been set back by two release-date delays already.

Will the proximity of these games' release dates damage either of their commercial hopes? Maybe, maybe not. It's certainly not usual for two games like this, with such hype surrounding them, to go head to head in the same week. For those old enough to remember the mid-'90s, it's all a bit Blur versus Oasis, isn't it? But which game is this winter's 'Country House'?
