Consider, for a moment, a racist and a zombie. One is a heartless, dangerous monster incapable of rational thought or reason. The other is a zombie.
I'd never considered the possibility of a racist zombie before, because that kind of smacks of overkill. But a racist zombie is exactly what some gamers thought they'd ran into during the recent Back 4 Blood beta.

Back 4 Blood is the new multiplayer zombie shooter from Left 4 Dead team Turtle Rock Studios. If you've been following its development you'll see that it really is the spiritual successor to the original Valve zombie slayer, and basically Left 4 Dead 3 in all but name.

As such, it's been getting a lot of well-deserved attention. But things took a turn when streamer and Twitter user @HomBKE (via Kotaku) bumped into a zombie who appeared to scream the N-word at him before dying.
"What did you call me?", @HomBKE rightly exclaims, visibly confused by the situation. It turns out this wasn't just a one-off either, as you can see below

As I'm sure you've probably already assumed, this bizarre soundbite was far from intentional. Publisher WB Games has since explained to Kotaku that the slur is the freakish result of two growls playing over the top of one another.
"Our team has been made aware of offensive language that can be heard when playing the game," the statement read. "This was not recorded or ever intended to be part of our gameplay. The audio is a result of two different Ridden growls that are playing simultaneously and when heard together sound like that word. We are working diligently to fix this issue, which should be completed either in time for the Beta, or when the game launches."
