DC is finally reviving Batman Beyond. The futuristic Batman was first introduced as part of the DC animated universe back in 1999, proving a smash hit with fans and running for a handful of seasons (and one great movie).

It took several years after the show's ultimate end in 2001, but the world of Batman Beyond ultimately made its way over to the DC comic books for continued adventures. It's here that our Batman of the future, AKA Terry McGinnis, will once again take up the mantle and kick some futuristic ass.

The future Batman's ongoing adventures will be chronicled in the Batman: Urban Legends anthology series. The adventure is being penned by the critically acclaimed writing team of Jackson Lanzing and Collin Kelly, with art from Max Dunbar, colorist Sebastian Cheng, and letterer Aditya Bidikar.

Lanzing teased what we can expect from the story on Twitter, promising a "Cyberpunk mystery" that will shake Gotham to its core. "And just so it's said: 'Gotham will never be the same' isn't some fly-by-night promise," he wrote. "We love the classic Batman Beyond, but it's time for Terry to face a new paradigm. We're smashing the toys and building something new. Something noir. Something beyond."

The writer added just how much the character of Terry McGinnis means to him, and how thrilled he is to get to take on the character after all these years. . "Like Nathaniel Richards & Dick Grayson, Terry McGinnis was a character who found me just when I needed him," he said. "He's meant the world to @cpkelly & me. Watching the series together w/ our buddy David was one of our earliest traditions. I can't wait to take you back to the future."

Batman Beyond will return in Batman: Urban Legends #7, releasing September 7.
