Warner Bros. has confirmed that the long-rumoured Batman game will finally be shown off later this week. Arkham Origins developer WB. Games Montreal has been teasing a new game starring the Dark Knight for close to two years now, and it seems that the end of this particularly long road is at last in sight.

According to the DC Fandome schedule, the massive online event will include a panel for "Warner Bros. Games Montreal announcement" at 6.30pm UK time on Saturday, 22nd August. This, of course, can only be the new Batman game - which Eurogamer confirmed last month has the saucy title of Batman: Gotham Knights.

There have been whispers about what we can expect from the upcoming game but nothing concrete. Previous teases from WB. Games Montreal itself seem to hint that Gotham Knights will feature the shadowy organisation known as The Court Of Owls as its primary antagonists. Other rumours point to the idea that the game will feature multiple playable characters beyond Batman himself, which certainly lines up with the Gotham Knights title.

A more recent report also supports the rumour that Gotham Knights will involve multiple factions that are somehow linked to a Nemesis system - kind of like the one seen in Shadow Of Mordor. The idea of separate factions also tracks with previous teases from WB. Games Montreal, which involved sharing what looked to be emblems indicative of various Gotham institutions - including the GCPD and the League Of Shadows.

We've also heard that the separate playable characters outside of Batman will be none other than the "Bat-Family". This typically refers to the likes of Nightwing, Robin, Batgirl, and Red Hood, and once again lends further context to the game being called Gotham Knights. Give me a playable Nightwing and you've got yourself a sale, to be honest.

That's not the only Batman news that's expected during the DC Fandome event though. At 1am on the 23rd (here in the UK), Arkham Asylum developer Rocksteady Games will share a first look at their new game - the brilliantly titled Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League. There can't be any doubt as to what that particular game is about, right?

One or two supposed leakers have claimed that Gotham Knights will tie into the new Suicide Squad game in some way, but that's entirely unconfirmed at this point. At least we don't have much longer to wait till we know for sure. August 22nd. Mark those calendars.
