EA has officially confirmed the Battlefield 2042 delay, though it's not as bad as we were expecting. DICE's shooter will now launch November 19, just one month on from its planned October 22 release.

In a statement shared on Twitter, DICE general manager Oskar Gabrielson clarified that the brief delay is in part due to the studio having to work from home throughout the pandemic.

"Building the next generation of Battlefield during a global pandemic has created unforeseen challenges for our development teams," they wrote. "Given the scale and scope of the game, we had hoped our team would be back in our studios together as we move towards launch. With the ongoing conditions not allowing that to happen safely, and with all the hard work the teams are doing from home, we feel it is important to take the extra time to deliver on the vision of Battlefield 2042 for our players."

You might not be playing Battlefield 2042 next month after all. According to at least one reliable industry insider, there's a very good chance EA and DICE's upcoming first-person shooter will not be able to meet its previously announced October 22 release date.

Over on Twitter, YouTuber and podcaster Dealer claimed they've heard that Battlefield 2042 has been pushed all the way back to 2022. Industry insider Shpeshal Nick, a chap with a proven track record, responded to Dealer's tweet to confirm he'd heard the same thing. He later clarified that he's heard the game has been delayed, but that it's not necessarily been delayed into next year. That's something.

Reporter Jeff Grubb also warned last night that we may hear of more delays this week. While Grubb didn't specifically mention Battlefield 2042 by name, Dealer and Shpeshal Nick's comments, coupled with the fact EA and DICE are being surprisingly quiet about the beta, would suggest that it's bad news for Battlefield.

Grubb's comments came in the wake of the announcement that Dying Light 2 has been delayed from its December 7 release date to February 2022. Developer Techland explained the game is "nearing the finish line", but that there's still work to be done in terms of polishing and general optimisation.

"The team is steadily progressing with the production and the game is nearing the finish line," Techland wrote. "The game is completed and we are currently playtesting it. It is by far the biggest and the most ambitious project we've ever done. Unfortunately, we've realised for us to bring the game to the level we envisioned, we need more time to polish and optimize it."

If Battlefield 2042 has been delayed - and bear in mind that's still an if - we will find out this week.
