All aboard the Battlefield train. The sixth game in the series will be revealed in June, and publisher Electronic Arts is calling it a "true next-generation game," so there's lots to look forward to in the coming weeks.

Our first look at the next Battlefield game came from EA Play Live last year. The "work-in-progress" footage was even impressive then, showing an incredibly detailed character and an enormous scene with grey soldiers scattered across the background. This would have been "impossible" to achieve without the power of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, yet it's heartening to hear that Battlefield 6 is confirmed for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One as well as the newer platforms, as per a financial call from Electronic Arts. Though information on Battlefield 6 has been kept tightly under wraps, there are rumours that it takes from the highlights of Battlefield 3, and the results from recent playtests have concluded that it is a "bold step" for the series. Colour us very, very intrigued.

There's been a buzz about Battlefield 6, and fans are even sure that it might shake the vice grip that Call Of Duty has over the genre of first-person shooter. Check out a compilation of one-in-a-million moments from Warzone here.

So, while leaks have provided us a slow but steady drip of possible intel on the game, this announcement will offer us the real deal. Electronic Arts is not participating in E3 2021, however, it's likely that it will occur around this time to generate the maximum hype. Furthermore, it may even be a feature in either Sony or Microsoft's showcase, as both companies are keen to flaunt the future of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. According to EA CEO Andrew Wilson, Battlefield 6 will be a "true next-generation game" with "all-out warfare" and havoc unlike what we've seen in the series before. Cor.

If this particular shooter series passed you by but you're curious about Battlefield 6, then it's no matter, because Battlefield V is one of the free titles in this month's PlayStation Plus promotion. It's also a part of EA Play within Xbox Game Pass, along with Battlefield 1, Battlefield 3, Battlefield 4, Battlefield 1943, and more.
