Earlier this week Electronic Arts confirmed that DICE is "way ahead" of schedule with Battlefield 6. In an update shared with investors, we learned that the game will almost certainly be launching around "Holiday 2021", and that we'll get a grand reveal this spring - just a few months away.

"Our next Battlefield experience will mark a return to all out military warfare," EA CEO Andrew Wilson teased. "The game takes full advantage of the power of next generation platforms to bring massive immersive battles to life with more players than ever before.

"Featuring maps with unprecedented scale, the next edition of Battlefield takes all the destruction, player agency, vehicle and weapon combat that the franchise is known for and elevates it to another level. The team is focused and the game is ahead of our internal milestones. We will reveal the game in the spring and deliver a defining Battlefield experience for our players in holiday 2021."

Those are some hefty claims, and we're certainly excited to see how Battlefield - a franchise that tends to go as big as it possibly can - will push the nascent next-gen hardware in pursuit of a truly immersive experience. One thing fans are really hoping to see from the upcoming game is a larger focus on destructible environments. This is the kind of thing the franchise has always done, of course, but a battlefield where any building or cover could be obliterated at any time would make for some thrilling fights.

According to reliable Battlefield leaker Tom Henderson, we might be able to expect just that. Over on Twitter Henderson shared a picture of the skyscraper on Siege of Shanghai collapsing in Battlefield 4, along with the caption: ""It started with one and ended up with many #Battlefield #Battlefield6"." The implication here, of course, is that Battlefield 6 will be taking destructible environments to new heights, giving us city-wide areas with massive structures that can be toppled.

That might sound ambitious as heck, but given everything EA has been saying about Battlefield 6 getting the most out of next-gen and offering battles on an unprecedented scale... well, this is exactly the kind of thing I could see DICE pulling off. It'd certainly kick off the new era of Battlefield with a bang - literally.
