Best Boss Ever Gives Staff The Day Off To Play New Monster Hunter

This is leadership.

The head honcho of a Japanese tech company has confirmed he'll be giving his employees the day off on Friday so that they settle in for a marathon session of Capcom's Monster Hunter Rise on Nintendo Switch.

Masaki Hiyama, the CEO of VR development company Mark-on, explained via Twitter that because so many Japanese workers take the day off whenever a new Monster Hunter game drops, he decided to make it official. He's declared March 26 "MonHun Day", and all staff can stay at home to play. Even if they're not into Monster Hunter, that's a day off to do whatever they want with. I'm assuming that the Monster Hunter part isn't compulsory, anyway.

As reported by Huffington Post Japan (via VGC), Hiyama sent employees a letter notifying them of the vacation day. "March 26 will be the release date of Monster Hunter Rise," it read. "And since it is expected that we will not be able to concentrate on our work, I will be making that day a 'MonHun vacation'."

Hiyama later told Huffington Post that "there were several employees who said they wanted to take the day off on the 26th because they wanted to play MonHun immediately, so we took the plunge and did this. We received words of thanks and appreciation from employees for giving them this day off." That's one hell of a boss. Hiyama also stressed that the holiday was for all employees apart from executives. Presumably they enjoy enough perks on a day-to-day basis.

In our review of Monster Hunter Rise, we found it to be a highly enjoyable new chapter in Capcom's iconic series.

"All in all, if you're a fan of the Monster Hunter franchise then this new instalment will absolutely tick all your boxes and more, what with all the new additions it brings," wrote GAMINGbible's Dean Abdou in his 7/10 review. "While Monster Hunter World was definitely a game designed more to welcome new players, Monster Hunter Rise calls back to the core fans. If you're relatively new, this might be intimidating at first; but once you get the hang of it there's a lot of fun to be had, either solo or with a group of friends."
