Bethesda Just Announced An Indiana Jones Video Game

Bethesda just announced the next project from Wolfenstein developer MachineGames - It's a video game based on everybody's favourite whip-cracking fedora-wearing professor, Indiana Jones.

"A new Indiana Jones game with an original story is in development from our studio, MachineGames," Bethesda wrote on Twitter. "It will be executive produced by Todd Howard, in collaboration with LucasfilmGames. It'll be some time before we have more to reveal, but we're very excited to share today's news!"

Take a look at the teaser trailer below. Going from what we can see on the table, it looks like the game will be at least partly set in and around Rome in 1937, so during the era of original trilogy. Sorry, Shia LaBeouf fans.

This untitled Indiana Jones project also happens to be the very first game announced under the newly reformed Lucasfilm Games banner, which is terribly exciting. Earlier this week, Disney and Lucasfilm made the exciting announcement that Lucasfilm Games would once again work with some of the best and brightest developers out there to create games based on Lucasfilm properties.

"Lucasfilm's legacy in gaming stretches back decades," the company wrote in its announcement post, "and with Lucasfilm and the galaxy far, far away entering a new and unprecedented phase of creativity, so will the world of Lucasfilm Games". Most of us assumed this predominately meant Star Wars, so the fact an Indiana Jones announcement just came out of nowhere is a fantastic surprise.

Lucasfilm Games was, of course, the original name of the prestigious company's gaming division established all the way back in 1982. This gaming arm of Lucasfilm would go on to create some of the best Star Wars games of all time, including Knights Of The Old Republic, Jedi Knight, and the original Battlefront titles.

The last Indiana Jones game to release on consoles was 2009's Indiana Jones & The Staff Of Kings, an action adventure game released for the Wii and PlayStation 2. It wasn't brilliant. Here's hoping MachineGames has what it takes to inject new life into the iconic treasure hunter, give fans an adventure worth taking.
