'Wolfenstein 3' May Have Started Development, According To Job Listing

The next Wolfenstein game is apparently in active development, according to this update to a MachineGames employee's LinkedIn profile.

Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus snagged the award for Best Action Game at The Game Awards 2017 along with a slew of nominations for its narrative, performances, original soundtrack and characters. While the spinoffs Cyberpilot and Youngblood garnered praise for their twists on the Wolfenstein formula, it's clear to see that players are hankering after another jaunt into the historical series.

The Wolfenstein series is known to go all out with its violence against Nazis, offering the player a number of gruesome ways to dispatch their enemies. It's often cited in arguments that video games cause violent behaviour in their players, however, there simply isn't a connection between the two. Check out our explainer below.

Fortunately, they might not be waiting for much longer for a confirmation of the next chapter in B.J. Blazkowicz's story. Teemu Kivikangas, an employee at MachineGames, has updated his LinkedIn profile to show that he is now the lead game designer on "an unannounced project."

Kivikangas is also working on the Indiana Jones game as a senior game designer so it's not this one. Ergo, people are wondering whether or not it's the next Wolfenstein game as MachineGames made The New Colossus whereas Arkane Lyon handled Cyberpilot and Youngblood.

When you consider that Bethesda is also very keen for Wolfenstein to continue, this "unannounced project" certainly sounds like it could be Wolfenstein 3. "They're in the very, very, very early stages of working on the Indiana Jones game," explained Pete Hines, senior vice president of global marketing and communications for the publisher, in an interview in June.

"Where we are for Wolfenstein, or quite honestly any other franchise that we don't have announced plans on, will have to wait until we get to the point of wanting to talk about it," continued Hines. "You can put me at the head of the list of people who want to see another Wolfenstein game, so no worries there."

Naturally, we're not able to confirm or deny the existence of a new Wolfenstein entry while Bethesda is being both optimistic and tight-lipped about the future of the series. We'll keep you in the loop once we know more, though.
