'Black Ops Cold War' Features Classic Zombies Maps, Says Industry Insider

It wouldn't be a Black Ops game without some kind of zombie action to get stuck into, and Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War doesn't sound like it'll disappoint. Treyarch and Activision gave us our first taste of undead mayhem in a brief trailer towards the end of last week's multiplayer reveal, sharing a glimpse of a zombies mode that looks genuinely horrifying.

But while the 30-second clip left us without much to go on beyond a decaying corpse sprinting straight towards the player, a reliable leaker has provided more details on what to expect when Black Ops Cold War unleashes a new wave of zombies in November.

Over on Twitter, industry insider Tom Henderson claims that Black Ops Cold War zombies will take players back to Nacht der Untoten. If that sounds familiar to you, it's because this map - which is German for "Night Of The Undead" - is the one that Treyarch used to introduce zombies all the way back in Call Of Duty: World At War.

Some of the more eagle-eyed fans out there thought they recognised elements of the classic map in the Black Ops Cold War teaser, but Henderson seems to have outright confirmed that we're headed back to the place that started at all. According to him, Russians have returned to the site for some nefarious purpose, and it's soon overrun by infected Nazi and Russian forces. In a fun touch, old WWII weapons remain on-site, which suggests some old favourites from World At War could be about to make a return.

Keep in mind that this is far from official confirmation that the original zombies map is returning, but it does make sense. Infinity Ward found a lot of success in Modern Warfare by bringing back some of the most popular maps from past entries. Treyarch is best-known for zombies, so we could well see a number of classic maps rolled out across the course of multiple seasonal updates - TranZit, anyone?
