'Black Ops Cold War' Open Beta Download Is Pretty Big, So Clear Some Space

The Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War beta pre-load is available for certain users on the PlayStation store now, and it looks like you'll want to clear some space. The early access beta for those that pre-ordered the upcoming shooter kicks off on October 8th on PlayStation 4, and requires a fairly chunky 31GB download.

Obviously that's nowhere near the kind of file sizes Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare and Call Of Duty: Warzone have been pushing lately, but it ain't exactly small, is it? It's also worth noting that most of the updates and install sizes for the most recent Call Of Duty have been smaller on PS4 when compared to other platforms... which means the Xbox One and PC beta downloads for Black Ops Cold War could be even bigger.

For now we're not entirely sure how much space the Black Ops Cold War beta will demand on Xbox One and PC, but with Modern Warfare now taking up 250GB on PC, I'd start clearing the decks to make room for the latest game now.

If you're not sure exactly when you'll be able to play the Black Ops Cold War beta, here's the schedule: As I mentioned, this first beta weekend is exclusively for PlayStation 4 owners. It'll run from Thursday, October 8th to Monday, October 12th. Early Access runs between the 8th and 9th, and is only available for players who have pre-ordered Black Ops Cold War on PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5. Between the 10th and 12th, the PlayStation 4 beta is open to all PS4 owners regardless of if you pre-ordered or not.

The second Beta Weekend is for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC owners. This bunch of tests will also support the previously announced cross-platform play, so you can dive in with friends on other consoles. It starts Thursday, October 15th, and lasts through to Monday, October 19th.

PlayStation 4 owners can play through the entire second Beta Weekend regardless of whether or not they pre-ordered. If you're playing on Xbox One or PC, however, you will need to have pre-ordered to play the beta between the 15th and 16th. The second open beta commences on the 17th, and that's when every player on every platform can get involved, no pre-order needed. That's... a lot, I know, so be sure to make a note of it or mark your calendar or something.
