'Black Ops Cold War' PS4 Alpha Will Unlock Exclusive 'Warzone Content

Thinking about diving into the PS4-exclusive Alpha for Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War this weekend? You definitely should, because it sounds like those that choose to get involved will earn special rewards that can be carried over into Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare and Call Of Duty: Warzone. We love a bit of cross-progression, we do.

Starting at 6pm BST tonight until Sunday September 20th, any PS4 owner can jump into this early demo for the upcoming Call Of Duty and test out a variety of new maps and modes. You don't need to have pre-ordered the final game or anything like that - just head to the PlayStation Store and follow the instructions from there.

As confirmed by Charlie Intel, anyone who drops into the Alpha over the weekend will be granted a special animated calling card. This PS4-exclusive item is called "Under Fire", and you can take it back into Modern Warfare and Warzone to lord it over your mates on Xbox One and PC. I'm sure they'll be more than happy to tell you what a prick you are.

A number of fans have expressed their disappointment that the Black Ops Cold War Alpha isn't offering anything more substantial in terms of reward... but I would argue that early access to one of the year's biggest releases is very much its own reward. At least it is if you care about Call Of Duty, which the people jumping into the Alpha obviously do.

While the Alpha kicks off in just a few hours for PlayStation gamers, don't worry if you don't have a PS4 - Xbox One and PC gamers will be able to go hands-on with the new Call Of Duty via one of the multiple beta weekends starting next month. In typical Activision style, the beta weekends are split between different consoles and entry requirements over multiple days, so be sure to read up on the times here and make a note of when you'll be able to get involved yourself.

Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War hits PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on November 13th.
