'Bloodborne' Is Being Remade... As A PlayStation One Game

Bloodborne would have still looked great if it was made a couple of decades ago.

We don't think there's anyone who can say Bloodborne is a bad game. It's known for being one of, if not the best, FromSoftware creations which by default makes it one of the best souls-like games out there. It's grungy and dark and pits a lone hunter against the scariest late-night walk ever, but now it's getting a fan remake with a twist.

Lilith Walther, a game developer, is in the process of creating a Bloodborne demake (a remake but, like, backwards) and so far it looks really impressive. Spotted by GameRant, this project allows players to experience Yharnam as if Bloodborne was a PlayStation 1 game and that legitimately sounds like a genius idea.

The project, named BloodbornePSX, requires Lilith to study the way original PlayStation 1 games we all enjoyed back in the day, as well as FromSoftware's title to concoct a perfect blend of the two. There are certain things on screen that you'll recognise - the Hunter of course - but also the health bar in the top left is familiar, as is the enemy we can see Lilith testing in the footage from Twitter.

The movement, despite being more polygonal and slightly more awkward, feels a lot like the original Bloodborne and the weapon hacks the Wolf Beast in just the right way, that we're left replaying memories of the PS4 classic in out minds. The effects are far more low-res in the PSX version, yet feel no less brutal as the Wolf Beast goes flying across the map after you pull your Saw Cleaver from him.

Here's a great fun fact, The Hunter in BloodbornePSX is actually based on two other famous PlayStation characters. Walther uses references such as Snake from Metal Gear Solid and Irvine from Final Fantasy 8 to make The Hunter look really PlayStation 1 era, and now looking back at the footage, we can see a slight resemblance between Irvine and The Hunter's hats, don't you?
