We already knew a lot of people are playing Borderlands 3 (we also know a lot of people are looking for Borderlands 3 pornporn), but now we know that it's sold extremely well to suit. According to a press release sent out by 2K Games, Borderlands 3 is the fastest selling game in 2K's history, with more than five million copies shifting in the first five days it was on sale. It's made more than $1 billion since going on sale on September 13.

2K also says that Borderlands 3 is the highest selling game in the series on PC. Which, considering it is only available exclusively on the Epic Games Store, shows that people are not only hanging around that storefront for the free games. And, it also shows a game is perfectly able to find success on PC without going through Steam.

Interestingly, despite Borderlands 3 topping the charts in the UK, it had sold less than half the number of copies of Borderlands 2. Though, this is because the charts only track physical sales, and the market has shifted dramatically towards digital sales since 2012. This shift is something 2K acknowledges in its press release, as reported by Business Wire. It says that Borderlands 3 has seen the highest percentage of digital sales of any of its games, with more than 70% of gamers buying digitally.

"Borderlands 3's incredibly successful launch is a result of the hard work and longstanding partnership between Gearbox Software and 2K," David Ismailer, president of 2K, is quoted as saying in the press release. "We are immensely grateful to everyone who played a role in making the Borderlands series the global, pop culture phenomenon that it is today, including hundreds of developers at Gearbox and many who have made this their life's work. We also want to thank the Borderlands community. Mayhem does not happen by itself, and their passion for the series is what drives us to make each game an amazing experience."

Not resting on its laurels, Gearbox Software has revealed that it's working on a Halloween-themed event for a Halloween-themed event for Borderlands 3, called the 'Bloody Harvest'. That's going to be released some time in October.
