'Call Of Duty: Black Ops 2' Voted Best CoD Of The Decade By Fans

A big win.

We're a few days into 2020 now, which means by law the last few weeks of the last decade had to be spent compiling, sorting, and arguing over what was the best of what between 2010 and 2019. The best albums, the best movies, books, shows, games. I don't make the rules, it's just human nature to do stuff like this, innit?

While most gamers were arguing over which video game was the very best of the decade (our pick can be found here if you're interested), Call of Duty players wanted to go deeper. Activision releases a new entry in its popular FPS franchise every year of course, so there was no better time to work out once and for all which CoD title released in the last decade was the best of the bunch.

Over on Twitter, the massively popular Call Of Duty news site Charlie Intel conducted a survey to see which of the last ten games (plus Modern Warfare Remastered) would come out on top. Perhaps to nobody's surprise, 2012's Call Of Duty: Black Ops 2 was the clear winner.

Developed by Treyarch, Black Ops 2 was considered by many to be a real leap forward for Call of Duty. The single-player campaign might not have been up there with previous entries, but the multiplayer and massively expanded zombies offering made the first Black Ops sequel a a genuinely good time packed with chaotic online fun. Unfortunately, some also point to Black Ops 2 as the beginning of a real decline for the franchise.

It has, undeniably, been something of a rocky decade for Call of Duty. While sales have never been bad (by most standards), they have oscillated wildly over the last ten entries. Fan reception to certain titles like Advanced Warfare and Infinite Warfare also made it clear that the majority of the community was unhappy with the increasingly fantastical direction CoD was going on.

Thankfully, this started to change towards the end of the decade. 2017's WWII was seen as a strong step in the right direction, while 2018's Black Ops 4 introduced an incredible new battle royale mode and more zombies chaos that was loved around the world. It was last year's Modern Warfare reboot that really seemed to put CoD back on track though.

Activision

Released in October 2019, Modern Warfare is already the most-played Call of Duty this generation, and has raked in an incredible $1 billion in global sales. Perhaps if it had been out for a little more than a few months, Modern Warfare could have taken Black Ops 2's spot as the Call of Duty game of the decade?
