Snipers were absolutely crushing the competition in the Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War alpha, so developer Treyarch will be nerfing these in the beta next month.

To sum it up, the snipers were actually outperforming assault rifles even at the range at which the latter should trump the former. It's pretty impressive, in some strange way. In multiplayer matches in Black Ops Cold War, the snipers were dealing out hefty damage (of course), but they were also boasting an extremely rapid aim down sights speed. They were much quicker than other snipers in the series, and this meant that players were having a rather grim time of it if they didn't get their mitts on a sniper.

Black Ops Cold War
designer Tony Flame (great name) addressed the issues found with the weapons in a post published to Twitter. It turns out that the reason snipers were ridiculously powerful was to test this alpha's gameplay specifically. "Sniper Rifles WILL have balance changes for the upcoming Beta based on our analytics data this weekend," assured Flame, and reiterated that crossplay will be active for the forthcoming betas scheduled for October

The first beta weekend is exclusively for PlayStation 4 players, expectedly, beginning on October 8th and ending on October 12th. Those who've opted into Early Access will be able to play together on the 8th and 9th: quick reminder that this slot is only available for players who have pre-ordered Black Ops Cold War on PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5. Between the 10th and 12th, the PlayStation 4 beta is open to all PlayStation 4 players. Go forth, and prosper.

Then, the second beta weekend will be held from October 15th to October 19th. This one unlocks the multiplayer modes for all platforms: that's PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC players all running round together. This will also help Treyarch test the performance of crossplay for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, and iron out any wrinkles before November. For our thoughts on the multiplayer, read on here.
