Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War players could be looking forward to another map for Zombies mode, and it might be set in the tropical forests of Vietnam.

Only one day after the game launched, the community was airing their thoughts on the latest entry to the successful shooter series. Our Phil Boon said that the core campaign was "very satisfying," with two optional side missions that bolster the "detailed" world-building that Treyarch and Raven Software have done for this alternate history. He did find, though, that the hotly-hyped game was "a little light on launch content". Black Ops Cold War has eight maps from the get-go, whereas Modern Warfare had 12 and Black Ops 4 had 14.

The relatively small pool of possible locations causes staleness in multiplayer matches, which is not ideal if multiplayer is the beating heart of the experience. Moreover, the Black Ops Cold War Zombies mode only uses the one map (Die Maschine), and GamingIntel notes that this is the smallest volume of Zombies content that a Call of Duty title from Treyarch has launched with, since 2008's World at War. Seeing as World at War was the very first iteration of what would become the extremely popular mode, it's not a favourable comparison, 12 years on.

Well, we've got good news for you: if you're hankering after a new arena to outlast the walking dead, there might be another map for Zombies on its way. The source of such speculation comes from a leak ahead of the launch of the game. It was on the money about a number of things, like perks, the campaign storyline, and weapons, and claimed that Zombies would be getting three maps from launch. One is Die Maschine, another is titled Firebase Z, and the last was Nacht Der Untoten. Now, we know that this didn't happen, because there is only one Zombies map, but Nacht Der Untoten does feature inside Die Maschine.

Perhaps, a choice changed with short notice during development, and Treyarch and Raven Software made the best of it by dropping Firebase Z and smushing the other two maps together. However, a lot of time and effort is spent on environments when creating a video game, and teams would rather salvage than bin projects. Combine this fact with the glitch above, which places the player in the base from Fracture Jaw, which uses parts of the Shi No Numa map (the Zombies map set in swampland somewhere in Japan, home to zombified Imperial soldiers), and things get interesting.

The last scrap of evidence we have is a datamined image from Black Ops Cold War. Mocked up to look like a KGB report, the Russian forces will be building a KGB-Spetsnaz Omega Group facility outside Khe Sanh, and expect to be completed by March. It's all very intriguing, and we'll keep you in the loop as and when we know more.
