Undead good.

Late last year, Activision released a little game called Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. Against all odds, this little indie shooter ended up being quite a hit, with millions of players all around the world getting stuck into some classic FPS action.

It's a pretty good game, is Black Ops Cold War, and plenty of fun with friends across its wide variety of multiplayer modes. As someone who's never given very much of a crap about Call Of Duty games at all, I've always found myself drawn to the Zombies aspect of each release - and this latest version definitely delivers.

But what if you're like me? What if you don't really want to fork out for a whole Call Of Duty game just to try out one or two modes that you might like? Don't you wish there were some way to sample Black Ops Cold War Zombies? You're in luck: developer Treyarch has announced over on the PlayStation Blog that Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War will have a Zombies free trial weekend, running from January 14th to January 21st.

"After uncovering initial secrets about the Dark Aether, Requiem is calling on all reinforcements to investigate anomalies related to this mysterious power source," Activision writes. "If you have yet to be called into action against the undead horde, get ready to gear up for a full week of free zombie-slaying action."

"For the first time in Call of Duty history, Treyarch's legendary Zombies mode will be available for free through the Zombies Free Access Week. This fearsome free access period will be available to all players through their respective platform's store."

The free trial weekend will let players sink their teeth into the normal Zombies mode and its map Die Maschine, as well as the PlayStation exclusive Onslaught mode. As if that wasn't enough for you, trial players will also get access to Cranked, the intense new mode that arrives with this week's mid season update. Cranked promises to be a super frenetic mode in which you need to keep killing Zombies to refresh a timer. If the timer reaches zero, you die. A simple premise, but effective.

"Just like in regular Die Maschine, you'll be airlifted in with a weapon of your choice within a loadout," Activision writes of Cranked. "However, once the first Zombie hits the floor, the clock starts ticking away. Your Operator will automatically go down if they fail to kill another Zombie within a short period of time. Keep watch of the clock - and your six - to survive this fast-paced variation of the traditional Zombies game mode."
