'Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Multiplayer Remastered' Releasing This Year, Says Insider

Activision will release a remaster of Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2's beloved multiplayer this year, according to a wild new rumour.

You may remember that a remastered version of the iconic 2009 game's single-player campaign was released back in 2020, leaving fans to wonder exactly where the multiplayer side of things had gotten to. Activision explained at the time that with Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare and Call Of Duty: Warzone both out, and Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War still to come, it wouldn't have made sense to fragment the community further by introducing a fourth multiplayer option for players.

Now a new rumour is circulating that suggests Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Multiplayer Remastered (let's hope they find a snappier name than that) will be releasing this year instead of the previously reported Call Of Duty: Vanguard.

Reports surfaced earlier this week that claimed Vanguard - the supposed WWII shooter from Sledgehammer Games - is in bad shape and may not even launch this year. This is far from confirmed, I should stress, but a recent post from Twitter user thesoapkai claiming Modern Warfare 2 Multiplayer Remastered will release in 2021 instead of Vanguard has been DMCA'd (legally removed) by Activision.

In their original post, thesoapkai alleged that Sledgehammer Games will once again become a support studio and said that Vanguard is currently "unreleasable". They later added in a follow-up tweet they're not sure which part of the leak prompted Activision into a takedown, but... well, none of it is good, is it?

While certainly suspect, a DMCA isn't necessarily confirmation that something is afoot. Tom Henderson, a leaker with a much more reliable track record when it comes to Call Of Duty, explained of the takedown that even if one small part of thesoapkai's claims were accurate, the publisher had authority to remove it. In other words, some of his leak is probably correct - but we have no idea which parts or exactly how much.

Henderson maintains that Activision will release a new premium Call Of Duty this year, and suggests we take this DMCA and Modern Warfare 2 Multiplayer Remastered rumour with a grain of salt for now.

Activision tends to gear up for big Call Of Duty announcements around May, so we could end up seeing something official soon. Until then, stay frosty out there.
