Activision is planning to release a remastered version of Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 in 2021, according to a reliable leaker.

Over on Twitter, TheMW2Ghost claimed that a remaster of the 2011 classic's campaign will be released soon, probably as a PlayStation exclusive to start with. Fans will no doubt remember that 2020 saw the release of Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered, which was also exclusively available on PS4 for a few weeks before hitting other consoles. 2021 also marks the ten-year anniversary of the much-loved Modern Warfare 3, so it'd certainly make sense on multiple fronts for Activision to drop a remaster this year.

TheMW2Ghost has a fairly solid track record when it comes to providing accurate leaks for calling cards and other in-game events. Over the weekend, they made the claim that Modern Warfare 3 is getting revived.

"Was told that MW3 Campaign remastered is definitely coming this year," they wrote, "and should be coming Q2 which is the original plan, one month exclusive to PlayStation. It was originally set for Q2 of this year under a deal with PlayStation, but not sure if that's still the case. Apparently it's definitely still coming at some point this year".

The leaker seems adamant that the remaster is "definitely" coming this year, but do take this with a pinch of salt for now. We've heard a lot of rumours about Call Of Duty this year, including rumblings that we may not get a brand-new game at all due to troubled development. Other reports suggest that instead of the previously rumoured WWII shooter Call Of Duty: Vanguard, we're finally going to get Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Multiplayer Remastered.

Would Activision really release two Modern Warfare remasters this year in place of a brand-new game? It's unlikely, but I can't imagine that the publisher is willing to let this year go by without any Call Of Duty release. Watch this space.
