'Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare' Brings Cool New Twist To Ground War

Change is coming.

Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare is trying something a little different with its Ground War mode this week. Developer Infinity Ward has announced that the popular shooter's large-scale mode will be getting an interesting new twist thanks to an incoming playlist update.

Infinity Ward shared a community update over on its official website yesterday, detailing some of the new things coming to the game this week. New Modern Warfare playlists are typically updated around Tuesday afternoon, so the new content should arrive a little later today.

There are a couple of cool things we'll be able to sink our teeth into this week, then. Most notably the aforementioned Ground War update. Players can look forward to an infantry-only Ground War playlist. As the name suggests, it'll limit the mode to infantry combat with vehicles and tanks completely removed from the action. Boots on the ground in the truest sense - I'll be intrigued to see how much this twist changes up the mode.

Elsewhere, expect a few new twists on the smaller-scale Gunfight mode. We'll be getting a 3v3 sniper variant set on the popular Rust map, which was added to the game at the start of the massive Season Two content drop. Gunfight is also getting a new map in the form of Bazaar, which you'll likely have spotted in the previous trailers for Season Two.

Finally, we learned that Modern Warfare's next double XP event will kick off this Friday (February 28th), and run for the entire weekend. The perfect chance to get stuck into all this new content.

In other Modern Warfare news, we're still waiting for official word on the game's long-rumoured battle royale mode. According to multiple reports, leaks, and datamines over the last few months, this new mode is being developed by Raven Software, the studio that usually supports other developers across mainline Call Of Duty titles.

The mode, apparently called Warzone, is said to support 200 players across a large-scale map, and will offer solo, duos, and four-player matches. Most recently, a report surfaced that suggested Warzone will be going live in early March, leading many to assume that an official reveal is on the cards in the next week or so.

Personally, I reckon Activision is going to take a leaf out of EA's book and pull an Apex Legends-inspired reveal, followed by an instant release of the mode. We'll find out soon enough.
