Activision Blizzard has confirmed that it raked in a staggering $956 million in revenue from microtransactions in Q1 2020, AKA the period between January and March. Predictably, a vast chunk of that number entirely comes down the in-game content in Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare and the free-to-play battle royale spinoff Warzone.

The company confirmed the news during its Q1 2020 Financial Call on May 5th, where it also revealed that Modern Warfare has pretty much smashed every franchise record to become the most successful entry in series history. According to Activision, the game has now sold more copies, and has more players online, than any other Call of Duty title in the same period. Modern Warfare has been out for 194 days.

"Our goal to connect the world through epic entertainment is more important to our players than ever before," said Bobby Kotick, Chief Executive Officer of Activision Blizzard. "We delivered strong financial results for the first quarter, and are raising our full year outlook. I have been awestruck by the strength of our employees and their families during this difficult time."

"Whether managing healthcare or childcare, performing public service or community service, our teams around the world have shown ingenuity and resilience. In the face of so many difficulties, our employees have made certain that the joy, the engagement, and the benefits of gaming remain an effective way to help keep our 400 million players around the world connected and safe."

The publisher also confirmed that the massively popular Warzone is only going from strength to strength. The battle royale has pulled in an incredible 60 million players since launching in March. In-game content revenue also reportedly doubled year over year in Modern Warfare compared to Black Ops 4 in Q1 2019.

Looking to the future, Activision also said that it expects to launch Call Of Duty 2020 in the fall as planned. There were some fears that current events would have an impact on this release date, but that doesn't look to be the case. There's still no word on exactly what the next COD installment is, but these things are typically revealed around the end of May.

As for the future of Warzone? Developer Infinity Ward has said that the battle royale will continue to grow and evolve as other "premium" Call Of Duty titles release. We've also heard that Season 4 of the game will solve a few long-held mysteries. I just hope we find out what the hell is hiding in those locked bunkers. It better not be zombies.
