Between the release of Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and the news that Call Of Duty: Warzone will be integrating with the latest instalment next month, you might be wondering what's to become of Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare. The 2019 shooter gave the popular franchise a much-needed shot in the arm and is still hugely popular with players around the world - so is Activision just going to abandon it?

No, as it turns out. The good news is that both Activision and developer Infinity Ward have plans to keep producing content for the game after the sixth season wraps up, although it might not be the Season 7 we've been expecting.

This news comes from Infinity Ward lead multiplayer VFX Artist Reed Shingledecker, which is a fantastic name by the way. Speaking to a fan on Twitter, Shingledecker said that there's definitely more content to come for Modern Warfare, but admitted that he doesn't know what this next batch of content will be called yet.

Given Season 1 of Black Ops Cold War kicks off in December, I would imagine Modern Warfare will step away from seasonal content so as not to confuse players. As such, I definitely wouldn't expect whatever comes next to be called Season 7 - but we'll have to wait and see I guess.

It's also not clear when this new content will drop, how often it's released, or what it will be. The seasonal release schedule has seen a substantial mix of new modes, maps, operators, and other cosmetics. But with Black Ops Cold War the "main" Call Of Duty title at this point, it could very well be that Infinity Ward scales back and simply updates the game with the occasional cosmetic - if we're lucky we could get a new map or mode every now and again.

Whatever this new content ends up being, it's good to know that Modern Warfare will remain active and supported for those players who either don't want to move onto Black Ops Cold War, or simply can't afford to just yet.
