Season 3 of Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare has been live for about a week now, and Infinity Ward clearly intends to keep the good times rolling. As always, the developer updates the game about once a week with a ton of fixes, tweaks, and new ways to enjoy the FPS.

This week, we've seen some pretty exciting new content hit both Modern Warfare and the free-to-play spinoff Warzone. There are new weapons, an all-new way to play Warzone, an incoming Double XP Weekend, and the return of a classic Call Of Duty multiplayer mode in the form of Modern Warfare: Drop Zone.

Activision

Longtime fans of the franchise might remember that Drop Zone was first introduced in Modern Warfare 3 back in 2011. It hasn't been a consistent staple of Call Of Duty games since then, so it's always nice to see it make a return every now and then. Activision describes Drop Zone as a "team objective mode", with plenty of mayhem and a real focus on strategy and teamwork.

"Drop Zone is a team objective mode where players battle to hold objectives to win," Activision wrote in a blog post. "Players earn points by being inside the drop zone. The first team to reach the required point total or hold the most points when the time expires is the winner. Killstreaks can only be earned via care packages that continually deploy while the drop zone is held."

"You earn points for EACH team member in the drop zone," the publisher continued. "Meaning the more players inside the zone, the more points per second that you earn. The zone moves around the map and is designated by a Care Package marker and red smoke."

If you're brand new to Drop Zone and feel like getting the edge in any way you can, Activision has provided a pretty handy strategy guide that you can read here. However, the real key to victory in Drop Zone is working with your team and communicating effectively. That's why I know I could never win a game.

In addition to Modern Warfare's new mode, Warzone has also received a "Scopes and Scatter Guns Trios" option. This new twist on three-person matches limits weapons to snipers and shotguns, which should lead to some pretty intense games. Finally, Activision confirmed that the Double XP Weekend would run from this Friday (April 17th) at 6pm in UK time until the following Monday at 6pm.
