It's possible that Call Of Duty 2021, apparently codenamed WWII Vanguard, won't launch within this year for this reason.
This leak comes from TheMW2Ghost, and honestly, it doesn't surprise me. Reports arose that the development of the next title is fraught with issues, as per a tweet from industry insider Tom Henderson. "Vanguard... To put it simply, is a f*cking disaster," he revealed earlier this month, and added that the game will be "held back so badly" by previous console generations. Now, Activision is yet to announce anything concrete about Call Of Duty 2021 as it continues to focus its attention on Call Of Duty: Warzone and Call Of Duty Mobile, which are practically printing money for the company. Lately, it's been all-change for Warzone as its zombie-infested map was levelled in a nuclear explosion and the clocks rewound to the 1980s. What do we think of the new digs? Returning to Call Of Duty 2021, TheMW2Ghost shared some interesting tidbits about the game's progression towards completion and release. "There is STILL no certain release date for Vanguard," they stated in a post to Twitter. "This is the latest that a firm decision hasn't been made about the release, and it is *possible* that we won't see Vanguard this year." They were even able to shed a little light on the reason why Activision might be altering its approach to the property. "There are talks of some kind of "revamp" for MW19, or a flow of more content for it. There's so much unreleased & potentially saved for MWII. And, of course, CW at the front and center," continued TheMW2Ghost. Modern Warfare recently received three new maps for its multiplayer modes, with no notice from Activision. Given that the rollout for live content in games adheres to a set schedule, it was weird to see these maps arrive out of the blue and players were dismayed when they were removed as quickly as they were launched.
Most worrying of all for fans is the admission that "there's nothing about [Vanguard] that would make it a good release this year," according to the leaker's source. We must consider what TheMW2Ghost and Henderson say with a pinch of salt seeing that the publisher hasn't made any mention of the upcoming entry to the series. Yet, in an interview with VentureBeat, Activision said that it will be releasing new Call Of Duty games a little later than its tried-and-true third quarter window. "It's all part of a broader agenda to bring the community along on a fun journey," said Rob Kostich.
