Infinity Ward's big new push to weed out PC cheaters on Call Of Duty: Warzone has proven to be incredibly effective. It's made so much of an impact, in fact, that would-be hackers everywhere are lining up in their droves to complain about just how effective the new measures are. I know, it breaks my heart too.
Last week, Infinity Ward rolled out a tough new strategy to take on the issue of hackers exploiting the PC version of Warzone. It's not that everyone with a PC is more inclined to cheat, it's just that it's easiest to do so on a PC. Hence the problem got so bad on that particular platform that PS4 and Xbox One users actually elected to turn crossplay off so they didn't have to deal with hackers.
Not only did that suck for console users, it sucked for the PC users who just wanted to play an honest game of Warzone. But no matter how hard Infinity Ward tried, cheaters would just keep coming back to the game. Since it's free-to-play, it wasn't that hard to keep registering new accounts.

But this all changed for the better when, last week, the developer introduced two-step SMS authentication for PC users logging into the game with a free account. By enabling this, cheaters who've previously been banned now have to create a new account with a separate phone number to the one they'd used before. Obviously this is a lot harder than simply registering a new email address, and cheaters are already feeling the pinch.
Last week, just days after the new measures were put in place, a Reddit user shared a brilliant thread from some dark corner of the internet where hackers and cheaters go to exchange tips and tricks. In short, the image detailed a hilarious rant from one cheater who was furious that they could no longer cheat. Poor diddums.
But it gets better. Far from being a one-off, Eurogamer has had a quick peek across a number of cheat websites and has come across multiple posts from hackers who have no idea how to fight back against Infinity Ward now. One user even asks the all-important question: Is cheating worth it?

"Is COD Warzone really worth all this hassle," they wrote. "Is the game THAT fun or is cheating in it and beating down kids worth THAT much trouble? If I were banned, that'd be it. I wouldn't even create a new account."
Will cheaters ever truly prosper? I have no doubt that someone somewhere will eventually find ways to get around Infinity Ward's new measures, but as long as the developer stays vigilant, it should be able to stay on top of things. Hopefully console players can start turning crossplay back on soon so we can carry on enjoying the game without sneaky cheats ruining it for everyone.
