'Call Of Duty: Warzone' Bug Leaves Player Stuck In 'Gulag Mode'

You hate to see it.

A strange new bug in Call Of Duty: Warzone saw one unlucky player shot straight into the Gulag before they'd even had a chance to get stuck in.

Reddit user UnbanPod shared a particularly odd piece of footage that showed the glitch in action. In it, we can see the player jump from the plane and land as normal. Things take a strange turn, however, when we discover they're stuck in some kind of weird Gulag-style purgatory.

Once they'd hit the ground, UnbanPod noticed the problem. They were in the middle of the game without any armour, or even the pistol that players always land with at the start of the battle royale. All they could make use of was fists, and had nothing else to hand but a couple of stones in their inventory - It was exactly as if they were waiting for their 1v1 in the Gulag... just without actually being there.

Sure enough, the screen eventually faded to black and UnbanPod was in the Gulag, about to 1v1 another player. See for yourself below.

It's not entirely clear what happened here, and nobody else in the Reddit thread seems sure exactly what could have caused this. As others have pointed out, Warzone is a game full of curious bugs and glitches. Some of them can become widespread and much more well known, while others - such as this odd Gulag bug - could only ever impact a handful of players before fading into obscurity.

UnbanPod didn't seem particularly phased by the issue, fortunately. They claim to have won their unexpected Gulag 1v1, before rejoining the squad and taking home the win. Greatness from small beginnings, I guess.

One slightly more troubling glitch in Warzone right now is affecting many more players, however. Multiple players have reported running into an occasionally game-breaking and always-terrifying bug in which gun textures completely corrupt and turn players' weapons - and sometimes even entire players - into giant, spiky black cubes

This issue seems to have become more of a problem since the game's Season 5 patch last week. The good news is that Infinity Ward is aware of the problem, which means a fix should probably arrive soon. If you head over to the public Modern Warfare / Warzone Trello, you'll see that "reports of corruption appearing on the end of weapons after the latest update" is listed as an in-progress fix. Let's just hope this Gulag bug doesn't get any more prominent.
