It's time to say goodbye to Verdansk as Call Of Duty: Warzone prepares for its first official season of Black Ops Cold War content. Black Ops Cold War Season One kicks off on December 16th, along with an "unprecedented" amount of free content and several expansions for both the main game and the free-to-play battle royale experience.

"Season One is the largest free content drop in Black Ops history," Activision wrote in a blog post. "A massive expansion of free content, including the comprehensive integration of Operators, weapons, player progression, and Battle Pass rewards across Black Ops Cold War and Warzone."

The publisher also teased that the battle royale is "set to go beyond Verdansk." Players will be dropping into a brand-new Warzone map at launch, complete with a brand-new mode. There's also talk of a "new Gulag experience", which most likely has something to do with the Rebirth Island/Alcatraz leaks we've been seeing over the past week or so.

Details on what exactly the new map and Gulag experience will be have yet to be fully revealed, but no doubt Activision will share more information over the next few days. Meanwhile, the publisher has promised that the battle royale's arsenal will be expanding considerably with the arrival of over 30 Black Ops Cold War base weapons and Blueprint variants.

Meanwhile, Black Ops Cold War will be getting plenty of its own all-new content for players to enjoy - including the return of a fan-favourite map "Prepare for an incredible amount of free content in Black Ops Cold War, including new Multiplayer maps, new and fan-favorite 6v6 modes and playlists, the return of 2v2 Gunfight with four new maps, and a massive new Fireteam map," Activision wrote.

"This offering includes a battle through a sprawling luxury complex within the Hollywood Hills of Los Angeles. That's right: the legendary Call of Duty: Black Ops II 6v6 map known as Raid will be ready to play in Black Ops Cold War at Season One launch."

I guess there's nothing left to do but mark our calendars for December 16th. Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in.
