The first major Halloween event for Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare and Call Of Duty: Warzone is less than a week away... but what terrors can we expect when The Haunting Of Verdansk kicks off on October 20th?
Activision and Infinity Ward have yet to share any concrete details on the limited-time event. Apart from a brief teaser and the promise of multiple special modes with their own rewards, we don't really know who - or what - is coming to the popular shooter for Halloween. Or at least we didn't until now, as a recent leak seems to have confirmed Modern Warfare will be crossing over with a classic horror movie franchise.
As spotted by the good folk over at ModernWarzone on Twitter, there's been strong evidence that we can expect a cosmetic bundle inspired by Saw, the grisly horror franchise that traumatised a generation of kids - myself included - back in 2004. ModernWarzone has often proven itself a reliable source for Call Of Duty leaks, and they provided a screenshot of a description for a special throwing knife that can "only be obtained from the Saw bundle when available in-store".

ModernWarzone also claims that the Saw bundle will come with a Billy The Puppet operator skin. Yes, that's the little puppet dude that has become the de facto mascot of the entire franchise. Yes, that will be a terrifying skin for a human-sized operator to wear. I'm less sure about this as there's no visual evidence to accompany the claim, but I guess you can't have a Saw bundle without some kind of cosmetic skin option, right?
In addition to this Saw bundle, it's widely believed that The Haunting Of Verdansk will finally introduce zombies to Modern Warfare and Warzone. The undead have been a staple of Call Of Duty since 2008, though they've steered clear of Infinity Ward's latest offering for the past year or so.
Last month, dataminers uncovered evidence of a Zombie Royale mode. According to various voice clips dredged up from Warzone, this limited-time mode would see players come back as zombies rather than go to the Gulag after dying. It also sounds as if zombified players have a chance to become human again by finding and consuming enough flesh - presumably by downing and gobbling up any surviving enemies.
The Haunting Of Verdansk kicks off October 20th and runs through till November 3rd. We should hear something official in regards to what Infinity Ward has planned for it later this week.
