'Call Of Duty: Warzone' Has Banned Nearly Half A Million Cheaters

Ask not for whom the banhammer falls. It falls for thee.

Activision has shared yet another status update as part of its ongoing war against Call Of Duty: Warzone cheaters. As you probably know, the battle royale has been plagued with hackers since launch, sparking a bitter and seemingly endless battle between the publisher and players that attempt to use dodgy software to cheat at the game.

In a sobering statistical update, Activision revealed it has now banned over 475,000 accounts from Call Of Duty: Warzone. That's nearly half a million cheaters ousted from the game in just over a year since its March 2020 launch.

This impressive number is indictive of Activision staying true to its word and constantly developing new anti-cheating measures. The publisher described this as the "seventh high-volume set of bans since February." Of course, the fact this is the seventh hefty swing of the banhammer since February is also a sign that hackers continue to find ways around whatever obstacles Activision throws up.

"Cheaters are never welcome," Activision said. "To date, our security and enforcement team has issued more than 475,000 permabans in Call of Duty: Warzone. Yesterday's large banwave was our seventh high-volume set of bans since February."

The progress report also confirms that it's now cracking down on the repeat offenders who get banned for cheating and them simply create a new account.

"Removing cheaters and taking away their ability to move to alternate accounts is a key focus for the security teams," Activision wrote. The publisher explained that it'll hit frequent cheaters with hardware bans designed to target the specific IDs of PC components and prevent re-entry to the battle royale. That's the plan in theory, at least, but PC Gamer notes that some of the most popular cheating programs out there can get around hardware bans with relative ease.

Don't expect to see cheaters completely wiped from Call Of Duty: Warzone anytime soon, then, but take a beat to enjoy this small victory against the gamers out there who don't believe in playing fair.
