'Call Of Duty: Warzone' Has Changed Up Gulag Loadouts Yet Again

'Call Of Duty: Warzone' Has Changed Up Gulag Loadouts Yet Again

Here we go again.

Call Of Duty: Warzone's massive mid-season update has arrived, bringing with it a raft of new content, tweaks, and changes for the battle royale. As always, there are changes that the community is pleased with... and changes that have caused some grumbling among the fans.

One thing a lot of Warzone players seem particularly unhappy about are the ways in which developer Infinity Ward has once again shaken up the Gulag. The prison where downed players are sent to 1v1 for a chance to rejoin the game previously had a pretty limited choice of randomly assigned weapons, but the last few major updates have changed this up in a big way.

This week's Season 4 Reloaded update has introduced a random chance at getting a fists and throwing knives only round, which is pretty cool. Unfortunately, you now have a chance to start a match in the Gulag with a sniper rifle, and people are... less than thrilled with this.

Some fans are arguing that between snipers in the Gulag and the inclusion of a new scope for long-range weapons that hides the usual telltale glint, Warzone campers have more of an advantage than ever before.

Of course, it's worth noting that Warzone is a free-to-play game, and that Infinity Ward probably is trying to find ways to make the experience more accessible and balanced for pros and newcomers alike. We have to respect that's a tricky balancing act to pull off, and the studio might not always get it right.

There was a similar outcry among fans back in May, when Infinity Ward added the M13, SMGs, and MP5 to the Gulag. The argument at this point was that automatic weapons didn't require quite as much skill to use in a 1v1 scenario as a shotgun or pistol, meaning coming out of the Gulag alive was less a matter of out-maneuvering a player, and more a matter of spraying and praying.

Infinity Ward tends to reverse or tweak its most controversial changes, but I don't think we should expect the Gulag loadout to change anytime soon. Like it or not, you'll just have to learn to live with it for now.
