Call Of Duty: Warzone players have uncovered many mysteries since the game launched back in March. Laptops that require passwords. Ringing telephones. Locked bunkers. Keycards that seemingly lead to nowhere. It's all enough to make you think developer Infinity Ward might be building to something.
As if the open world Verdansk map where the battle royale takes place wasn't already ruddy mysterious enough, we have one more unexplained oddity to obsess over. Various players are increasingly starting to report hearing howling wolves at various points across the map.Take a look at one documented sighting (or I guess hearing) below.

Weird, right? What's even weirder is that some players have been aware of the wolves since March, when the game launched. However, more and more players have now started to notice what was once clearly an incredibly rare occurrence. In the last few weeks alone, players have reported hearing the wolves at Dam (as above), Quarry, and Prison.
I don't know how familiar you are with Warzone, but those locations account for three of the map's four corners. It's almost as if these wolves are... closing in? I have absolutely no idea what's going on, but it's definitely creeping me the heck out.
A lot of players believe that the wolf cries have something to do with the game's mysterious bunkers, which does make sense. If you listen to the video above, it definitely sounds like the animals are in some kind of underground area, right? Others think that it indicates the arrival of zombies... but if you present five Call Of Duty fans with a mystery or Easter egg, one of them is always guaranteed to come the conclusion that zombies are somehow involved.
Personally, I reckon this has something to do with the bunkers. The strange keycards that started appearing in the game the other day, coupled with the increase in wolf activity... it has to be connected, and those locked underground areas are at the centre of it all. I'm convinced.

There's also a chance that the howling could be connected to a returning character. Omar Sulaman was one of the main bad guys in the Modern Warfare campaign. His alias? The Wolf. Yes, the player does shoot this character in the head over the course of the campaign... but a little thing like death didn't stop someone like Alex from coming back as part of Season 3.
What's also interesting is that the official Warzone website has a map of Verdansk with numerous areas marked as CLASSIFIED. As it happens, three of those classified areas are near where the wolves have been heard. My theory is that bunkers are opening soon, and someone - or something - is coming out. Exactly how or when, I have no idea - but I'm pretty excited to find out.
