'Call Of Duty: Warzone' Players Call For The Game's Best Mode To Return

Grounded.

I'm sure you've probably noticed, what with all the zombies currently running around Verdansk, that Call Of Duty: Warzone isn't quite the gritty and grounded experience it was at launch. Originally released as a spinoff for Infinity Ward's Modern Warfare, the battle royale was a lot more over-the-top than the game it spawned from, but still had at least one foot in reality.

Over the last year Verdansk has lost its mind. I'm not complaining, personally. I've loved seeing Leatherface run around the map while special Operators kill each other with actual crows. Still, I know there are fans out there who still crave a more brutal and realistic take on the game. For many, the limited-time Realism mode scratched that itch.

Released as part of an update several months ago before vanshing into the ether, Realism Battle Royale introduced thins like increased headshot damage, a limited HUD, and no easy-access map. In other words, it turned up the difficulty by making Warzone feel less like a video game and more like a skirmish in which one mistake could cost you everything.

As reported by CharlieIntel, a number of fans are now desperate to see Realism Battle Royale make its return. Maybe they're getting a little sick of the zombies, who can say? Whatever the case, a Reddit thread around the subject seems to have drummed up a fair amount of enthusiasm for the mode's comeback.

"I loved every second of it. My Grau was viable again in season 5," SgtIntermediate wrote. "You could pixel headshot somebody roof camping with the Grau and kill them. I loved the mode. I wish they would bring it back, but I'm afraid it is a bit of a niche mode. There are only two things I wish for Warzone: Night map and hardcore mode. I would play it 24/7."

Other users want to see Warzone take Realism even further and completely remove the map's gas circle for the entire game. "No circle at all during the entire game," wrote Chief-Aldo. "Meaning you need to consult the map more and plan your strategy based on your predictions on the gas movement. It makes it more realistic."

With zombies and an incoming nuclear event set to completely destroy Verdansk, it's unlikely that Warzone will bring back Realism anytime soon. Still, as the Call Of Duty battle royale grows increasingly fantastical, we can at least hope for the option of a more grounded experience somewhere down the line.
