'CancelDisneyPlus' Has Started Trending With The Holocaust On Twitter

Ah, here come the consequences of my actions.

It's another completely normal day here on planet Earth, as the hashtag "#CancelDisneyPlus' has started trending alongside The Holocaust over on Twitter. Now, you're probably wondering why on Earth these two seemingly massively disparate things started trending together on one of the biggest social media platforms in the world. If you can stomach it, I held my breath and got down in the muck to find the answer.

Late last night it was announced that LucasFilm and Disney were severing ties with Gina Carano, who played Cara Dune in the Disney+ show The Mandalorian . Carano, who has been accused of mocking the trans community and making trans exclusionary comments in the past, was let go from her role in the Star Wars universe after she shared a social media post that implied being a Republican today is like being Jewish during the Holocaust. Like I said, you need a strong stomach for this level of awful.

"Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future," a Lucasfilm spokesperson said in a statement. "Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable."

Carano has also been dropped as a client by UTA, an agency spokesperson confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter. All of which brings us back to why, exactly, "#CancelDisneyPlus" started trending with The Holocaust. Numerous supporters of Carano, incensed by the very notion that anyone should face consequences for doing or saying horrible things, immediately started the former hashtag in a bold effort to bring Disney to its knees. I wouldn't put money on it being a successful boycott, if I'm being honest.

Of course, it didn't take long at all for the hashtag to be hijacked by users who have zero intention of cancelling Disney+, and every intention of calling out the people trying to get the boycott of the ground.

Basically, I need a nice long break from the internet. And maybe a good cry in the shower.
