Cancelled 'Prince Of Persia' Game Footage Surfaces Online, And It's Epic

The footage from a cancelled Prince of Persia game has been found on YouTube. The real kicker? Apparently it's been floating around on the site for at least eight years and nobody has noticed...until now.

The footage is shown in the video below (direct link here) and comes from one of the series cancelled titles, Prince of Persia: Redemption. As far as we know, this is the first time the game's name has ever come to light, though its existence was hinted at on the LinkedIn profile of one of Ubisoft's 3D Level Artists, Christophe Prélot (thanks, GamesRadar). Prélot's profile shows a role as "3D Level Artist (Prince of Persia "Untitled Canceled) (PS3, Xbox360, PC)" lasting for a year from 2010 to 2011.

You get a good look at what the combat would've looked like too. It retains a lot of the elements of the original games, such as the ability to manipulate time, and leaping from building to building and scaling walls. But all of these elements look updated with smoother animations and movements. It's the perfect showcase of what the game would've been capable of, and it seems that was the entire purpose of the video.

According to Jonathan Cooper - who has the animation for The Last of Us Part II, Uncharted 4, and Assassin's Creed 3 under his belt - the newly emerged (but eight-year-old) video was a "pre-rendered game pitch" and not actual gameplay footage at all. The purpose of it was to presumably show what would have been possible with the game, had it gone into development.

If you've been keeping your eyes on our news over the last few days, you'll also have noticed that Ubisoft registered a domain for Prince of Persia 6. No news has been forthcoming about a new game in the series though so this could've been what prompted fans to go searching for clues and why the footage for the cancelled Prince of Persia: Redemption has come to light now.
