Cillian Murphy Is Up For Making Another ‘28 Days Later’ Sequel

Cillian Murphy Is Up For Making Another ‘28 Days Later’ Sequel

And then maybe we'll see a 28 Years Later too.

There are quite a few people who would chalk the successful resurgence of zombie films in the last few decades down to a single breakthrough horror flick: 28 Days Later. The 2002 movie, directed by Danny Boyle, follows the events of a "rage virus" which rapidly spreads throughout Britain, turning almost the entire population into zombies. Cillian Murphy plays Jim, a man who spent the beginning of the outbreak in a coma, and who, 28 days later, wakes up to find London practically deserted. The movie catapulted Murphy to international fame, and now the actor is saying he'd be interested in getting involved in another film in the series.

28 Days Later was followed in 2007 by 28 Weeks Later, which depicted the original zombies dying out and an attempt to repopulate Britain (Murphy is absent in the sequel). A small spoiler here, but at the end of 28 Weeks Later it's shown that the outbreak has moved onto Paris, and almost certainly Europe as a result. Returning to the series to see how the world fares 28 Months Later would certainly be welcomed by fans.

Since we're talking zombies, I'll take the opportunity to be excited about Back 4 Blood, the spiritual successor to the Left 4 Dead series, which is out soon...

In an interview with CinePop for A Quiet Place Part II, releasing into cinemas at the end of this month, Murphy was asked by an interviewer if he'd be interested in returning to the horror series, if he had an opportunity. And his reply will certainly have fans hoping for the best. "Well listen, I would never say never," he said "I loved making [28 Days Later], it was a long time ago - it was like almost 20 years ago. But sure, sure."

Of course, that's just a question about if he'd be interested in coming back to the series if another film was eventually made. It's been a long time since the original zombie flick came out, so perhaps the team could feasibly make 28 Years Later if they wanted to, in not too long. Thanks, Comicbook.
