The best thing to come out of the Star Wars prequels are the Clone Trooper Commandos. These highly-trained space marines were like a sci-fi Rainbow Six, moving as one through a warzone, tactically taking objectives. They were a highlight of the cartoon Clone Wars series. Well, now they're coming to Battlefront 2 along with a game modes that support co-op play against the AI. This is the closest we've been to a new Star Wars: Republic Commando in years.
Later this week, EA is releasing the Clone Commando as a new character to play in Battlefront. They come equipped with a DC-17m Repeating Blaster that has a grenade launcher alt-fire, letting them take on soldiers and vehicles pretty effectively. The Commandos also have a repulsor on their arm which acts like a force push, letting you punch enemy targets in front of you (ideally, over a nearby cliff). They also have an ability called Battle Focus which buffs the Commando and nearby allies with damage reduction. They'll also regain health as they damage enemies, while the ability is active.
Excitingly, these new characters come in alongside the launch of a new mode: Instant Action. It's an offline version of Battlefront 2's large-scale battles. You'll play alongside AI teammates against an AI enemy. Or, you can play the mode in co-op, teaming up with up to three friends. Currently, Instant Action and co-op will only available on Clone War era locations. In October that's broadening out to include more factions, and there will be special objectives to complete on the maps.

There's more in the update, too, EA is releasing a new map: Felucia. A Clone Wars era planet full of strange funguses that will explode with toxic clouds, you'll right between settlements and farmlands in this colourful world. The main feature of the new map, though, is the sarlacc pit. It's the perfect place to shove people with your Clone Commando's repulsor.
All of this new stuff will be available on September 25.
