Call Of Duty: Black Ops 4 was a big hit when it released in 2018 thanks to its ambitious battle royale mode and focused multiplayer content. However, there are a lot of fans of the franchise who still haven't quite forgiven Treyarch and Activision for making Black Ops 4 the first Call Of Duty to ditch a traditional single-player campaign mode.

Treyarch was clear from the moment the game was announced that Black Ops 4 wouldn't have a campaign, and it was even suggested that it always the plan to forego one. Instead, the developers wanted to create an online-focused experiences comprising of traditional multiplayer, the Blackout battle royale mode, and Zombies.

Despite this, numerous reports over the last year or so have suggested that Black Ops 4 did at one point have a campaign. The issue, apparently, is that it was too ambitious, and development problems meant that it ultimately had to be scrapped in order to get the game out on time.

Now we finally have what looks to be confirmation of the existence of this lost campaign. Reddit user ForeverDexus, has shared what seems to be some rough gameplay footage from the canceled Black Ops 4 mode. It's unclear where this was footage was obtained, or even if it's entirely legitimate... but it sure looks interesting, even if it was clearly in the early stages of development (the leaker claims this is Alpha footage). Take a look at it in action for yourself below.

Some cynics have pointed out that the campaigns HUD is very similar to the one in Black Ops 4 multiplayer, implying this video might not be exactly what it claims to be. However, the leaker countered that the campaign and multiplayer modes were supposed to be closely connected, which is why the HUD is the same.

I'm not entirely convinced this is what it's supposed to be, but I still live in hope that more details of Black Ops 4's alleged campaign surface one day. The lack of campaign really was one of the few areas where the 2018 Call Of Duty fell short, in my humble opinion.

Ah well. According to multiple reports, Treyarch is currently working on the 2020 Call Of Duty, which is believed to be a reboot called Black Ops Cold War. Hopefully this next one will come with a campaign. We shouldn't have much longer to wait before we find out for sure.
