'COD: Black Ops Cold War' Zombies Mode Gruesome First Look Unveiled

Looking (dead) good.

Last night's multiplayer reveal of Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War had an awful lot to take in. A first real look at the game in action. An explanation of how progression and other systems will work. Confirmation of when to expect the open beta. News on cross-gen and cross-platform play. Like I say, it was a lot.

With all that content packed into two hours, you might have missed what, for my money, was the most exciting part of the night: a first look at Black Ops Cold War's Zombie mode in action. Multiple leaks over the past several months have suggested that zombies would be making a comeback, which is hardly a surprise: Treyarch introduced the undead hordes way back in World Of War, and they've been a staple of every game developed by the studio since.

Still, as you can see below we have our very first official look at the new and improved zombies in action... and it's looking more gruesome than ever before. The monstrous undead appear in the last 30 seconds of the trailer, and oh boy have Treyarch ramped up the horror this time.

What kind of zombies modes will we get in Black Ops Cold War? That's something Treyarch isn't sharing just yet, but expect all kinds of ways to take on the walking corpses. What's especially intriguing right now is whether or not zombies will make their way into Infinity Ward's free-to-play Call Of Duty: Warzone. If I had to bet, I'd say that they almost definitely will.

I'm basing this on the confirmation that Black Ops Cold War and Warzone will share a direct relationship, as has been rumoured for so long. According to Activision, player progression will be shared between the two games, but we can also expect the titles to "share post-launch content from a narrative standpoint, interweaving the themes, locations, weapons, and vehicles of Black Ops Cold War into the Warzone action."

Sounds like zombies are coming to me, but we'll find out for sure soon enough. Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War launches for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S, and PC on November 13th. I don't know about you, but I'm more than ready to blast some undead suckers in the face.
