A hefty update.

As Season 3 of Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare and Warzone thunders on, Infinity Ward has detailed some of the new content we can expect as part of the next update. The popular FPS and its free-to-play battle royale spinoff will be getting a slew of new game modes, multiplayer playlist updates, and all-new cosmetic bundles.

In a blog post, the developer announced a number of playlist changes that'll be hitting Modern Warfare and Warzone this week. Players will be able to dive into the promising-sounding Cabin Fever playlist that'll feature a load of "medium-sized 6v6 multiplayer action" across smaller maps like Rust and Shipment. Infinity Ward added that Cabin Fever would contain deathmatch and objective-based game modes.

"Jump into the Cabin Fever moshpit to experience some small to medium sized 6v6 Multiplayer action," Infinity Ward wrote. "The playlist includes Rust, Shipment, Shoot House, Hideout, and Hackney Yard and features a variety of deathmatch and objective game modes. Experience a mix of engagements and test out strategies to secure the win."

Modern Warfare will also see the return of the classic Cranked game mode, and the debut of Gunfight Trios Tournaments. Cranked is a much-loved deathmatch mode in which players need to get as many kills as they can before the timer runs down and... they explode. The mode was first introduced in Call Of Duty: Ghosts, and has always been a hit with fans for its focus on high-intensity gameplay.

Meanwhile, Gunfight Trios Tournaments is pretty much exactly what it sounds like. 16 teams will take duke it out across a series of 3v3 matches. Losers are out, while winners ultimately go head-to-head in an attempt to claim the ultimate victory. Sounds good to me.

Fans will also be excited to learn that a new playable Operator will be joining Modern Warfare and Warzone. Infinity Ward describes Ronin as an "ex-Special Forces Operative and master of multiple fighting systems". This deadly chap will be available as part of his self-titled bundle in the in-game store.

Finally, Warzone will be getting a new mode. Players will be able to enjoy Plunder Trios, which replaces the expert-level troll that was Plunder Duos... a mode Infinity Ward added over the weekend, much to anger of fans who've been begging for a Battle Royale Duos mode since the game launched.

Oh, and I've no doubt you'll also be glad to learn that Battle Royale Solos, Trios, and Quads have all survived this update without being mysteriously removed or replaced by another limited-time mode. That's what I call progress.
