'Warzone' Reportedly Adding New Mode Following Backlash To Trios Removal

Three was the magic number.

Season 3 of Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare and Warzone came with a ton of cool new content, including new maps, gameplay options, and gear. Sadly, it also brought a crushing casualty to the free-to-play battle royale mode. As frequent Warzone players have probably noticed by now, the once-standard three-player squads have been replaced for a four-player Quads option.

While fans are usually more than happy for Infinity Ward to add new modes and options to the game (Solos was very well-received last month, for example), the issue seems to be that Quads came at the expense of Trios. It's not that the community didn't want Quads... but I don't think anyone expected losing Trios to be the trade off.

Suffice to say, the reaction so far hasn't exactly been positive.

On a personal level, I'm kind of bummed trios is gone. Myself and two friends just put together a winning strategy that was reliant on a three-man team, and while you can still drop into Quads with three players, there's an obvious numerical disadvantage. The good news is that it looks as if Infinity Ward will be adding a new, highly requested to mode to Warzone before long.

According to an image that briefly appeared on the Modern Warfare website before being taken down (thanks Call Of Duty Warzone News), it looks like a Duos mode will be added to the battle royale before Season 3 ends on June 2nd. This is something Infinity Ward has previously teased, alongside five-player squads.

Hopefully Duos will go some way towards winning the Warzone community back over again, but their anger is certainly understandable to an extent. Removing Trios with no explanation is kind of a weird thing to do, and has fans worried that Infinity Ward could simply pull any of the modes at any time. As has been the case with Modern Warfare multiplayer since launch, a little more communication would definitely go a long way.
